Owerri bombs: MASSOB vows to bring down Nigeria if…
The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra
(MASSOB) has vowed to unleash unprecedented mayhem if any bomb explodes
to kill Igbo in any part of the South-East states.
The leader of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, handed down the warning
yesterday in Owerri following the discovery of two bombs planted at the
Living Faith Ministry (Winners Chapel) in Owerri, Imo State capital.
Uwazuruike told Daily Sun that those who planted the bombs had in mind to kill Igbo who worshiped in the church en-masse.
He lamented that after the Igbo had been killed in the North for no
justifiable reason, they were now being pursued to their land, saying
MASSOB would retaliate the killing of their people anywhere in the
South-East by bomb attacks.
He, therefore, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to provide adequate
security in the South-East states to forestall any bombing of the Igbo,
saying: “We will bring down Nigeria if our people are killed here with
bombs.”
Uwazuruike vowed that his group would unleash mayhem of unimaginable proportions if Ndigbo were bombed in their homeland.
He disclosed that already MASSOB had mobilised its surveillance arm
to help the police in detecting miscreants, who wanted to bring bombs
into the South-East states with the purpose of exterminating the Igbo.
He also urged Jonathan to advise the South-East governors to urgently
rise to the occasion as his group would not hesitate to retaliate the
killing of their people at home.
“They were targeting our people in the North to kill them and we sent
buses to bring our people back. Now, they have come to our domain to
kill our people with bombs.
“It is most unreasonable to kill innocent people with bombs.
Therefore, if this attempt to exterminate our people with bombs in any
part of Igboland succeeds, what we will do will be unimaginable; the
level of our reaction will be catastrophic. In this regards, nobody will
ascertain the level of our unreasonableness,” he said.
The MASSOB leader, during the maiden Biafra Day celebration in Owerri
on May 30, had warned that his group would shelve its non-violence
posture to defend the Igbo, if they were killed in Igbo land.
He said the resolve was not empty as they would surely make good the
threat any day the Igbo were attacked and killed in their land.
He urged the Nigerian authorities to fish out those who planted the
Owerri bombs and mete out appropriate punishments to them while beefing
up security to protect the lives and property of the people in the
South-East states.
Also, Uwazuruike urged Ndigbo to be extra-vigilant, saying MASSOB would defend them with the last drop of its blood.
